Where it came from
Dubious Prey was released in 2012 on the Sticks 'N' Stones Recordings label, marking an early chapter in the career of Lamin Fofana. Fofana, an electronic producer and artist known for exploring themes of migration, displacement, and the complexities of the African diaspora, crafted this EP as a vehicle for his distinctively atmospheric and rhythmic soundscapes. At the time of its release, the project served as an example of the label's focus on experimental electronic music, positioning Fofana within a growing network of producers blending global club influences with abstract, textural composition.
The design and production of the EP reflect the minimalist, independent aesthetic characteristic of the Sticks 'N' Stones label during its early tenure. Fofana’s work on this project prioritized sonic world-building, utilizing dense, immersive layers that would go on to inform his later, more conceptual releases and installations. The record remains a notable entry in his discography for listeners tracing his transition from early club-oriented experiments to the more expansive, sociopolitically charged ambient work he is recognized for today.
