Where it came from
Released in 1988 by the iconic Colombian label Discos Fuentes, this compilation serves as a retrospective on the vibrant musical movements that swept Latin America during the 1960s. The record gathers twenty tracks that define the 'Nueva Ola' and 'Ye-Ye' trends, which saw local artists adapting the sounds of rock and roll, surf music, and British invasion pop into Spanish-language hits. This collection acts as a cultural document, capturing the youthful energy and stylistic synthesis that defined a generation of Latin pop.
The design of the album reflects the nostalgic, compilation-driven aesthetic common to Discos Fuentes' output in the late eighties. By packaging these earlier recordings under the '20 Exitos' banner, the label aimed to provide accessible archives for listeners interested in the roots of their regional pop history. The production emphasizes the rhythmic and melodic charm of the era, showcasing the crossover success that artists of the sixties achieved within the broader context of the Spanish-speaking recording industry.
