Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1988 by the iconic Colombian label Discos Fuentes, this compilation serves as a curated retrospective of the Latin American pop music explosion during the 1960s. The record was designed to capture the vibrant, cross-generational energy of the 'Nueva Ola'—the Spanish-language wave of rock and roll and pop influenced by international trends—alongside the specific 'Ye-Ye' and 'Go-Go' dance crazes that dominated urban nightlife and radio airwaves throughout the decade.

The album functions as an anthropological snapshot of a transformative period in regional music, drawing together tracks that defined a shift toward more youth-oriented, Western-influenced soundscapes. By compiling fifty hits, Discos Fuentes aimed to provide a comprehensive jukebox experience for listeners nostalgic for the era's signature upbeat tempos and electrified arrangements. While the specific art direction remains reflective of standard archival packaging from the label’s late 80s period, the collection remains a respected reference for scholars and enthusiasts of mid-century Latin pop fusion.
