Eu Tenho Um Pecado Novo (You Tengo Un Pecado Nuevo) / Dorme / Beijos Proibidos / Não, Nunca Mais

Released in 1962 by Odeon, this 7-inch EP showcases the mature artistry of Dalva de Oliveira, often referred to as the 'Nightingale of Brazil.' By the early 1960s, Oliveira had established herself as a central figure in the golden age of Brazilian radio and popular music, known for her distinctive, emotive contralto voice that could navigate complex emotional landscapes with ease. This record captures her refined approach to the samba-canção style, a genre characterized by its sentimental, often melancholic lyrical themes and lush, orchestral arrangements.

The production represents the high standards of Odeon’s mid-century catalog, focusing on clarity and the resonance of Oliveira’s vocal delivery. The songs selected for this release demonstrate the artist's ability to interpret popular romantic ballads with profound technical precision and sincerity. Critically, these tracks are viewed as definitive examples of the post-radio era transition in Brazil, where the grand orchestral styles of the previous decades began to settle into the sophisticated, polished formats preferred by the label during the early 1960s.
