Where it came from
Released by the Yugoslav state-owned record label Jugoton, this compilation served as a promotional sampler for the label's popular music roster at the turn of the decade. Its primary purpose was to celebrate the musical successes of the 1970 festival circuit while acting as a holiday greeting card for listeners entering 1971, distributing the popular hits of the time into a single, accessible format for the public.
The album features various artists who were mainstays of the Yugoslav pop and schlager scene during this period. The design reflects the utilitarian yet aesthetic standards of Jugoton’s late socialist-era production, focusing on providing a snapshot of the cultural zeitgeist rather than high-concept art. Upon its release, it functioned as a functional commodity for domestic entertainment, capturing the nostalgic and optimistic mood of Yugoslavia's entertainment industry during the early 1970s.
