Where it came from
Released in 1990 by the state-owned Yugoslav label Jugoton, this compilation album documents the Zagrebfest festival, a long-standing institution in the Yugoslav music scene. Zagrebfest served as a major showcase for pop and light music, often acting as a launchpad for emerging artists. The 1990 edition, themed around 'Zvijezde Koje Dolaze' or 'The Coming Stars,' reflected the musical trends of a country on the brink of significant political and social transition.
The album design adheres to the typical minimalist aesthetic of late-era Jugoton productions, prioritizing clear typography and direct imagery to highlight the transition from established pop acts to the younger generation of performers. While the festival itself was a staple of Croatian cultural life, its 1990 recording stands as a final snapshot of the collaborative pan-Yugoslav music industry before the disintegration of the state led to the fragmentation of the regional recording markets.
