Where it came from
Released by Decca in the mid-1950s, this compilation record represents the popular German-language entertainment music scene of the post-war era. During this period, record labels frequently curated thematic albums that combined prominent opera singers, popular vocalists, and celebrated orchestras to provide a broad variety of light listening experiences for the domestic market.
The production brought together a diverse group of established performers, ranging from the operatic baritone Benno Kusche to the Swiss singer and actor Vico Torriani. By balancing instrumental musette arrangements by Will Glahé with vocal performances from the Golgowsky-Quartett and the Rudolf Lamy choir, the album aimed to capture the sentimental and melodic aesthetic favored by radio and television audiences of that time.
