Luigi Boccherini composed his series of guitar quintets in the late 18th century while serving at the Spanish court, where he was heavily influenced by the local musical traditions and the popularity of the guitar. These works, which integrate the guitar into a traditional string quartet structure, were written for the Marquis of Benavente, an avid amateur guitarist who favored a refined and intimate chamber style.

This 1982 release on the Telefunken label features the Hungarian guitarist Dániel Benkő performing alongside the Éder Quartet. Produced during a period of renewed interest in Boccherini's chamber works, the recording was praised by critics for its balance of technical precision and the light, graceful phrasing characteristic of the late Classical era, serving as a standard entry in the discography for listeners exploring his lesser-known string-and-guitar repertoire.
