Where it came from
Released in 1962 on the Sonet label, this single captured the cross-pollination of American jazz standards and the localized charm of the Danish popular music scene. At the time, Papa Bue’s Viking Jazz Band was a pivotal force in the European revivalist jazz movement, known for blending traditional New Orleans styles with an accessible, upbeat sensibility that resonated deeply with Scandinavian audiences.
Dario Campeotto, already a prominent figure in Danish entertainment following his victory in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, provided the vocal performance for the A-side. His collaboration with the ensemble was a strategic effort to bridge mainstream pop appeal with the technical proficiency of the Viking Jazz Band. The record is noted for its period-accurate production and remains a representative artifact of the mid-century European jazz-pop crossover era.
