Where it came from
Released in 1972 on the Philips label, this single features Irwin Goodman, a central figure in Finnish protest song culture and popular music. During this period, Goodman was known for his collaboration with lyricist Vexi Salmi, who often wrote under the pseudonym Emil Retee. Their partnership defined the Finnish 'trubaduuri' sound, blending folk-influenced melodies with biting, humorous social commentary that resonated deeply with the working-class sentiment of the era.
The tracks represent the classic Goodman style, characterized by a mix of cynical wit and observational storytelling that characterized his career during the 1970s. As a prolific artist who frequently topped Finnish charts, his output under the Philips banner was aimed at a broad audience, serving as both entertainment and a critique of the changing social landscape in Finland. The record remains a quintessential artifact of Goodman's peak commercial years and the collaborative creative process between the artist and his primary songwriter.
