I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus / Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

This 1981 release was part of a promotional push by Pavillion Records, a subsidiary of CBS, to capitalize on the enduring popularity of Phil Spector’s Philadelphian-style wall of sound productions during the holiday season. The single paired the iconic girl-group sensibilities of The Ronettes and The Crystals, featuring tracks that had become definitive staples of the 1960s pop canon. By releasing these hits as a seasonal 7-inch, the label aimed to provide a nostalgic listening experience for listeners who grew up with the original recordings.

The production captures the quintessential spirit of the early-to-mid 1960s pop arrangements, characterized by sweeping strings, tight vocal harmonies, and dense instrumentation. While the recordings themselves predate the 1981 pressing by nearly two decades, this specific catalog number reflects a period when major labels frequently reissued classic holiday tracks to satisfy demand from radio programmers and home collectors who preferred the tactile experience of vinyl during the festive months.
