Introdução E Rondó Caprichoso, Violino E Orquestra, Op. 28 / Habenera, Violino E Orquestra, Op. 83 / Dança Macabra, Op. 40 / O Aprendiz De Feiticeiro

This 1986 Philips release, catalog number 68 51 113, compiles several cornerstone works of the late Romantic era, specifically focusing on the virtuosic and atmospheric compositions of Camille Saint-Saëns and Paul Dukas. The selection highlights the dramatic flair of Saint-Saëns' orchestral writing through the 'Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso' and the iconic 'Danse Macabre,' pieces that were originally composed in the late 19th century to push the technical boundaries of solo instrumentation and programmatic storytelling.

The recording features interpretations by the Orchestre National de l'Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Concertgebouworkest, ensembles noted for their long histories and precise, traditional approaches to the French and symphonic repertoire. Philips issued this collection during the mid-1980s as part of a series intended to repackage essential classical masterworks for a contemporary audience, aiming to provide a high-fidelity listening experience that balanced technical clarity with the vivid, colorful textures required for works like Dukas' 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice'.
