Where it came from
Released in 2023 on The Trilogy Tapes, It’s Only A Matter Of Acceleration Now represents a significant entry in the discography of Lamin Fofana, a Sierra Leonean-born artist and producer known for his genre-defying approach to electronic music and sound art. The album emerged from Fofana’s ongoing exploration of the historical and social dimensions of Black music, channeling complex themes of migration, displacement, and the rapid pace of contemporary life into an atmospheric, immersive sonic experience.
The aesthetic direction of the record reflects the characteristic minimalist and abstract visual identity associated with the London-based label, The Trilogy Tapes. By prioritizing a dense, layered soundscape that draws from ambient, techno, and field recordings, Fofana sought to create a conceptual narrative centered on acceleration and transition. Upon its release, the record was noted by critics for its emotive power and its departure from conventional dancefloor structures, marking a deliberate progression in Fofana’s technical and thematic ambition.
