Jascha Heifetz / Concerto En Mi Mineur Mendelssohn / Concerto En Ré Majeur Tchaikovsky

Released under the La Voix de Son Maître label, the FALP 416 pressing captures two quintessential pillars of the violin repertoire: the Mendelssohn Concerto in E Minor and the Tchaikovsky Concerto in D Major. These recordings, featuring Jascha Heifetz with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Thomas Beecham and the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Walter Susskind, represent the high-water mark of mid-century technical precision. The album was issued during a period when the LP format began to offer classical listeners the fidelity necessary to appreciate Heifetz's signature lean, brilliant tone and his exacting, rapid-fire approach to phrasing.

The design of this release reflects the standard aesthetic of the French HMV subsidiary during the 1950s, emphasizing the prestige of the soloist through stark, formal presentation. Heifetz was notoriously particular about his recorded output, often insisting on multiple takes to achieve a flawless technical standard that became the benchmark for a generation of violinists. Critics of the era frequently remarked on the sheer velocity of his playing, noting that while some listeners preferred a more romantic, indulgent interpretation, Heifetz’s insistence on clarity and structural integrity transformed these concertos into modern, authoritative statements.
