Kegelstatt-Trio - Trio In Es-dur Für Klarinette, Viola Und Klavier, KV 498

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed the Trio in E-flat major, K. 498, famously known as the Kegelstatt Trio, in 1786. It was written for a specific circle of friends in Vienna, notably the clarinetist Anton Stadler and his pupil Franziska von Jacquin, for whom Mozart intended the piano part. The work is celebrated for its warm, intimate character and the unconventional integration of the viola, which provides a rich, mellow texture that complements the clarinet’s agility.

This specific pressing on the Metronome label, catalog number MCEP 3066, features performances by Stig Heinesen, Hermann Holm Andersen, and Eyvind Møller. As an mid-century European release, this record serves as an example of the period's effort to make chamber music more accessible through the format of the extended play record. These recordings were generally praised for their technical clarity and commitment to the traditional interpretation of Mozart's structural nuances.
