Kommet, Ihr Hirten / Leise Rieselt Der Schnee

Released by the German budget label Tempo in the mid-20th century, this 7-inch record captures the popular Kinderchor Rudolf Lamy performing traditional German Christmas carols. Rudolf Lamy was a significant figure in German choral music, known for training children's choirs that combined technical precision with a warm, evocative sound. These recordings were part of a widespread effort to bring classic holiday repertoire to domestic record players during the postwar era, when affordable vinyl allowed for the preservation of cultural traditions in middle-class homes.

The Tempo label specialized in accessible, moderately priced pressings, often featuring simple, utilitarian cover art that prioritized clarity and recognition over avant-garde design. By selecting enduring favorites like 'Kommet, ihr Hirten' and 'Leise rieselt der Schnee,' the label aimed to provide a staple for family holiday gatherings. The production reflects the straightforward aesthetic of the period's mid-market releases, focusing on the clarity of the choral arrangement rather than elaborate studio effects, which helped solidify the record's place as a nostalgic heirloom for many German families.
