Konzert Für Klavier Und Orchester Nr.2 F-moll - Fantasie F-moll

This Emidisc release captures the quintessential Romantic interpretation of Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor and the Fantasie in F minor, as performed by the Polish virtuoso Witold Małcużyński. Małcużyński, a student of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, was renowned for his deeply idiomatic approach to his compatriot's work, often emphasizing the lyrical, melancholic nuance of the compositions rather than pure technical display. The recording features the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Walter Susskind, a partnership that highlights the balanced, emotive tension required for Chopin’s orchestral accompaniments.

The record was issued on the Emidisc imprint, a label often utilized by EMI for budget-conscious reissues of its rich back catalog. By the time this pressing reached the market, Małcużyński’s reputation as a Chopin interpreter was firmly established, and these recordings were intended to offer high-quality performances to a wider audience at a more accessible price point. The design adheres to the functional, minimalist aesthetic common to European classical reissues of that era, prioritizing clear identification of the soloist and the historical significance of the interpretations over elaborate cover art.
