La Escalera / A La Ultima Moda / ¿De Donde? / Una Pena Y Un Cariño

Released in 1962 on the RCA Victor label, this 7-inch EP features Chela Prieto, a prominent Mexican performer known for her contributions to the ranchera and bolero genres during the mid-twentieth century. The record compiles four tracks, including the title track 'La Escalera' alongside 'A La Ultima Moda', '¿De Donde?', and 'Una Pena Y Un Cariño', reflecting the era's focus on intimate vocal performances often backed by traditional mariachi or orchestral arrangements.

The production represents a standard mid-century industry format designed to showcase a singer's versatility across different emotional registers, from the lighthearted to the melancholic. As part of RCA Victor’s extensive catalog of Latin American music, the disc serves as a snapshot of the period's recording practices, where artists were frequently packaged in short-format releases to maintain visibility in the burgeoning pop and folk markets of Mexico and the wider Spanish-speaking world.
