Where it came from
Released in 1962 on the French label BAM, 'La Seine' by Renée Lamy represents a mid-century exploration of chansons focused on Parisian life. BAM, or Boîte à Musique, was a boutique label known for its dedication to French folk music, poetry, and regional traditions, positioning this record as part of a cultural effort to preserve and celebrate local heritage amidst the rapid modernization of the early sixties.
The record serves as a sonic postcard of the French capital, utilizing traditional instrumentation and Lamy’s distinct vocal style to evoke the atmosphere of the Seine’s riverbanks. As a catalog entry under the EX series, it fits into a broader collection of thematic releases curated to appeal to listeners interested in the authentic, nostalgic depiction of French identity, a common stylistic objective for the BAM label during that decade.
