La Vendita Del Core

Released in the mid-1950s by Les Discophiles Français, this recording of Giovanni Legrenzi’s La Vendita del Core represents a significant effort during the mid-century revival of Baroque vocal music. Les Discophiles Français was noted for its commitment to high-fidelity documentation of early music, often utilizing scholarly ensembles that emphasized period-appropriate instrumentation and vocal ornamentation, which stood in contrast to the heavily romanticized interpretations common in the early post-war era.

The recording features a dedicated ensemble including soprano Rosanna Carteri and instrumentalist Robert Veyron-Lacroix. The production sought to capture the intricate counterpoint and dramatic flair of Legrenzi, a composer pivotal in the transition between the early and middle Baroque. The release was critically received by musicologists of the time as a necessary archival effort to preserve the Venetian style, and it remains a sought-after piece for collectors of the French label's distinct catalog.
