Where it came from
La Vendita del Core, a dramatic cantata by 17th-century Venetian composer Giovanni Legrenzi, was brought to life in this mid-20th-century recording by the ensemble directed by Roger Blanchard. Les Discophiles Français, a label highly regarded by audiophiles and scholars for its rigorous commitment to the Baroque repertoire, released this performance as part of their effort to document neglected Italian vocal music. The label was known for its distinct aesthetic and high-fidelity standards, aiming to provide authentic interpretations that moved beyond the mainstream musical traditions of the era.
The production features an international cast of vocalists including Rosanna Carteri and Marie-Luce Bellary, supported by the instrumental expertise of Robert Veyron-Lacroix. The design of the record reflects the label's typical minimalist and scholarly approach, focusing on the musicology of the piece rather than commercial flair. Upon release, the record was well-received within specialized circles for its clarity and the technical precision of the performance, serving as a testament to the label's dedication to preserving the complex, ornate style of the late Baroque period.
