Where it came from
Released in 1969 on the Polydor label, this 7-inch single serves as a localized musical artifact celebrating the town of Leibnitz in Styria, Austria. The record features the 'Leibnitzer-Sparkassenmarsch' on the A-side and the 'Leibnitz-Lied' on the B-side, reflecting a mid-century European tradition of producing regional pride records commissioned by local institutions or municipal bodies to foster civic identity.
The recording highlights the folk-musical landscape of the period, featuring performances by Berglandecho and the Doppelquartett 'Bruderschaft' Leibnitz. These groups were representative of the choral and brass-band culture prevalent in post-war rural Austria, aiming to preserve communal heritage through traditional melodic arrangements. Such records were typically distributed through regional banking branches or local cultural events rather than through mainstream retail channels, leading to their status today as niche collectibles within the field of regional European ethnomusicology.
