Where it came from
Released in the early 1970s on the Canadian Talent Library label, this album serves as a snapshot of the Canadian broadcast music industry during a specific era. The Canadian Talent Library was established by radio station CFRB in Toronto to provide stations with high-quality, locally produced content that met government-mandated Canadian content quotas, fostering a unique ecosystem for jazz and easy-listening ensembles that might otherwise have struggled for commercial recording opportunities.
The album features Les Foster, a multi-instrumentalist and arranger who was a staple of the Toronto studio scene, leading his group through a selection of standards and pop arrangements of the time. The production is characteristic of the label's aesthetic: polished, professional, and designed for radio play, reflecting the clean, lush arrangements favored by MOR (Middle of the Road) radio programmers of the mid-20th century.
