Where it came from
Released in the early 1970s on the Canadian Talent Library label, this album serves as a document of the sophisticated easy-listening and lounge scene prevalent in Canadian broadcasting during that era. The Canadian Talent Library was established by Allan Waters of CHUM Limited to fulfill government-mandated Canadian content requirements, providing high-quality instrumental and vocal arrangements that could be aired by radio stations across the country. These recordings were often pressed in limited quantities specifically for distribution to radio programmers rather than for retail sale, which accounts for their relative scarcity today.
The album features Les Foster, a respected musician and arranger who contributed significantly to the lush, orchestral pop sound that defined the label's aesthetic. The arrangements on this record exemplify the era's focus on studio craftsmanship, utilizing polished production techniques to create a breezy, professional sound intended for background or mood listening. While these records were designed to be functional tools for broadcasters, they have gained a modest cult following among modern collectors of mid-century library music and vintage Canadian jazz-pop.
