Where it came from
Loïc April's eponymous debut album was released in 2018 through the Montreal-based independent label Bonsound. Coming out of the fertile Quebec music scene, the record functions as a fusion of atmospheric rock and introspective post-punk, characterized by dense, textured guitar work and introspective French-language lyricism. April sought to capture a specific mood of melancholic urgency, utilizing the studio to craft soundscapes that feel both intimate and expansive.
The album's design and sonic direction reflect an intentional shift toward a more somber, guitar-driven aesthetic that distanced the artist from his previous collaborative projects. Upon its release, the record was noted for its nuanced production and its ability to bridge the gap between traditional rock instrumentation and modern experimental sensibilities. It was received as a promising debut that cemented April's position as a distinct voice within the francophone alternative circuit.
