Where it came from
Released in 2021 by the French experimental label Les Disques En Rotin Réunis, this record documents a unique collaboration within the contemporary avant-garde and free-music scenes. The project centers on the collective known as L'Orchestre Inharmonique de Nice, an ensemble dedicated to exploring texture, improvisation, and sound experimentation, bringing together a disparate group of highly regarded avant-garde musicians.
The collaboration features notable figures including the multi-instrumentalist Etienne Jaumet, known for his work with Zombie Zombie, alongside the seasoned improviser Jean-Marc Foussat, experimental guitarist Claire Gapenne, and the renowned minimalist composer Charlemagne Palestine. The design and composition focus on a deliberate subversion of traditional orchestral harmony, favoring organic, spontaneous development. It was received by the experimental music press as a challenging, atmospheric document of sonic exploration that sits firmly within the label's tradition of releasing adventurous, non-conformist recordings.
