Maurice André Interprète Fritz Werner, Bernhard Krol

Released in 1972 on the Erato label, this recording showcases the virtuosic talent of French trumpeter Maurice André performing alongside the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Fritz Werner. The album reflects a period when André was instrumental in elevating the trumpet from an orchestral section instrument to a celebrated solo voice, particularly within the baroque and contemporary repertoire. The collaboration with Fritz Werner, a conductor noted for his deep immersion in the German musical tradition, provided a grounded, structured backdrop that allowed André's bright, lyrical technique to take center stage.

The inclusion of Bernhard Krol’s compositions on this record highlights the intersection of modern interpretation and historical performance practice. Krol, a horn player and composer, created works that leaned into neoclassical aesthetics, blending formal rigor with expressive melodic lines. The recording was well-received by classical music enthusiasts for its clean production and the pristine, agile tone that became synonymous with André’s name during the peak of his career in the 1970s.
