Where it came from
Med Holger Til Søs was released on the NPA label during the mid-20th century, a period when Danish sing-along culture—often centered around the popular figure of Holger 'Fællessanger' Hansen—was at its peak. The record captures the maritime-themed entertainment that defined social gatherings and radio variety programs of the era, presenting a curated selection of songs intended to evoke the lighthearted atmosphere of coastal life.
The production relied on the collaborative efforts of Hansen alongside musicians Alex and Richard, who were integral to the modest, accessible sound characteristic of the label's catalog. While the record was primarily aimed at the local domestic market and fans of traditional Danish popular music, it serves as a historical document of the 'fællessang' tradition, reflecting the earnest, community-focused approach to performance and recording that was standard for independent Scandinavian labels of that time.
