Mediterranean Holiday (Original Sound Track From MCS Cine Vision)

Mediterranean Holiday was a 1964 travel documentary produced by MCS Cine Vision, intended to showcase the beauty of the Mediterranean coast through the then-popular Cinerama wide-screen format. The film followed the journey of a group of young people traveling through various coastal countries, capturing local culture and scenery. This soundtrack album, released by London Records in 1965, was designed to accompany that immersive cinematic experience, providing a lush, orchestral score that mirrored the ambitious scale of the film.

The soundtrack was composed and conducted by Riz Ortolani, a prolific Italian film composer noted for his ability to blend traditional orchestral arrangements with contemporary sensibilities. Working with the Symphonie-Orchester Graunke and the Singgemeinschaft Rudolf Lamy, Ortolani created a sweeping, atmospheric soundscape that captured the romanticized essence of 1960s European travel. The music was well-received as a competent example of the travelogue genre, serving as an effective audio souvenir for audiences who had experienced the film in theaters.
