Where it came from
This collection represents the collaborative legacy of the Trio Matamoros, a legendary Cuban son trio, and the esteemed orchestra leader Antonio María Romeu. Recorded during the mid-20th century, these sessions were intended to preserve the foundational rhythms of the Cuban son and danzón traditions at a time when the genre was evolving significantly across the Caribbean and into international markets.
The album was released on the Memorias Musicales label as part of a project to archive key performances from the golden age of Cuban popular music. The aesthetic of the cover and the arrangement of the tracks were designed to appeal to nostalgia, emphasizing the sophisticated interplay between Miguel Matamoros’s vocal compositions and Romeu’s orchestral arrangements, which were widely celebrated for their elegance and technical precision.
