Musique Pour Une Architecture - Grégorien À Ronchamp

Released in 1974 on the Corelia label, this recording captures the unique acoustic environment of Le Corbusier’s Chapelle Notre-Dame du Haut in Ronchamp, France. The album features the Manécanterie Sainte-Madeleine de Besançon, a choir whose performance was specifically curated to interact with the chapel's dramatic architectural geometry. By placing the Gregorian chants within this modernist space, the production sought to bridge the gap between ancient liturgical traditions and the stark, sculptural concrete forms of 20th-century religious architecture.

The design and conceptual approach behind this release reflect the post-Vatican II interest in integrating avant-garde design with sacred music. The recording is noted for its focus on the chapel's specific reverberation times and spatial qualities, which were central to the experience of the space. While largely considered a niche release within the realm of liturgical and field recordings, it remains a documented intersection of sacred music history and modernist architectural appreciation.
