Chant Grégorien - Le Mystère Du Christ

Released in 1975 under the Corelia label, this recording captures the liturgical traditions of the monks of Saint Wandrille de Fontenelle, a Benedictine abbey in Normandy, France. The album was produced during a period when Gregorian chant experienced a modest revival in secular interest, serving as both a spiritual exercise for the monastic community and an archival effort to preserve the ancient monophonic melodies that have defined Western liturgical music for centuries.

The production sought to capture the specific acoustic environment of the abbey, emphasizing the austere, resonant quality characteristic of the Benedictine style. By focusing on the cycle of the liturgical year, the recording aims to convey the meditative atmosphere of the monastic life. It was received by musicologists and religious scholars as a faithful document of the St. Wandrille repertoire, noted for its disciplined, unadorned vocal delivery that avoids the romanticized interpretations often found in more commercialized choral recordings of the era.
