Provenance

Where it came from

Released by Electrecord in 1975 under the catalog number STM-ECE 01160, this record showcases the choral traditions of Cluj-Napoca, a city long considered a vital center for Romanian musicology and composition. The project was conceived to document the contemporary output of local composers, reflecting the efforts of the state-run record label to archive regional artistic achievements during a period of significant cultural development in socialist Romania.

The recording features the Cappella Transylvanica chamber choir conducted by Dorin Pop, a central figure in Romanian choral music known for his dedication to pedagogical excellence and technical precision. The design and selection of the repertoire were intended to highlight the complexity of Transylvanian polyphony, serving as both a formal documentation of the choir’s standard and a vessel for disseminating the works of regional composers to a broader national audience.
