My Cherie Amour / Yester-me, Yester-you, Yester-day

This 1988 Motown release, catalog number MOT 421, serves as a reissue of two of Stevie Wonder's most enduring late-sixties singles. Originally released in 1969, 'My Cherie Amour' was a hallmark of Wonder's transition from child star to sophisticated songwriter, showcasing his ability to craft lush, melodic arrangements that moved beyond the standard Motown beat of the era. 'Yester-me, Yester-you, Yester-day,' also a 1969 hit, complemented the A-side with its nostalgic, reflective lyricism and classic pop sensibilities.

The 1988 reissue was part of Motown's broader strategy to keep their deep catalog accessible to a new generation of listeners during the resurgence of the 45-rpm format in secondary markets. While the original 1969 recordings were produced under the legendary Motown hit-making apparatus with contributions from the house band and legendary songwriters like Sylvia Moy and Henry Cosby, the 1988 reissue maintained the classic sonic identity established during Wonder's pivotal development period, cementing his status as a foundational pillar of American soul music.
