Where it came from
Nada Como El Sol was released in 1989 as a curated compilation of tracks from Sting’s 1987 album, ...Nothing Like the Sun, specifically re-recorded in Spanish and Portuguese. The project emerged from Sting’s desire to connect more deeply with his Latin American audience following his highly successful tour of the region, which underscored the cultural importance of singing in the listener’s native language.
The album features translations by Roberto Livi, designed to maintain the poetic integrity of the original lyrics while ensuring they resonated naturally in Romance languages. The record was met with critical appreciation for its thoughtful linguistic approach, successfully avoiding the common pitfalls of direct translation by adapting the nuance and sentiment of Sting’s songwriting for his international fanbase.
