Where it came from
Released in 1988, Nada Como El Sol serves as a specialized collection of songs by Sting, featuring tracks sung in Spanish and Portuguese. The record was born from Sting’s desire to connect more deeply with his Latin American audience following his successful tour of the region and his involvement in humanitarian efforts, most notably his support for the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo in Argentina.
The album includes re-recordings of classic tracks such as 'They Dance Alone' (Ellas Danzan Solas), translated to reflect the political and social resonance of his work. The design and production aimed to provide a thoughtful, localized experience for fans, moving beyond a simple translation by refining the arrangements to better suit the nuances of the languages. It was well-received as a sincere gesture of artistic cross-cultural bridge-building during the late 1980s.
