Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2013 by Koch Universal Music, Narrenschlager - 2x8 Hits Nicht Nur Für Die Närrischen Tage functions as a thematic compilation album tailored for the German Carnival season, or 'Karneval.' The record draws from the rich tradition of regional party music, known as 'Karnevalsmusik,' which centers on lighthearted, rhythmic tracks designed to accompany the festivities in cities like Cologne and Düsseldorf. By packaging sixteen tracks into a double-disc set, the label aimed to provide a comprehensive soundtrack for public celebrations and private gatherings alike.

The compilation serves as a curated anthology of quintessential carnival anthems, reflecting the genre's emphasis on communal joy and sing-along melodies. Produced during a period when physical CD sales remained a reliable format for party-ready seasonal music, the design aesthetic favors accessibility and festive branding typical of the Schlager music scene. It stands as a representative example of how major labels historically utilized regional cultural events to consolidate popular localized hits into a single, commercially viable collection for the public.
