Where it came from
Released by Polydor under catalog number 46 537, this recording is a classic mid-twentieth-century German Christmas production. It features a collaboration between the Kinderchor Erich Bender and the Bergedorfer Kammerchor, providing a juxtaposition of youthful voices and choral precision. The album was designed to capture the traditional atmosphere of a liturgical Christmas service, blending spoken segments from the Gospel of Luke with arrangements of beloved German carols.
The production reflects a post-war era trend in West Germany that prioritized the preservation of cultural and religious folk traditions through high-quality choral recordings. By utilizing an organ and string quintet, the arrangers aimed for a warm, chamber-music aesthetic intended for family home listening. The inclusion of the Portuguese-titled variant on the cover speaks to Polydor's international reach during this period, positioning the record as a representative piece of European holiday musical heritage.
