Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da / Otis Sleep On

Released in 1968 on the Atlantic label, this single features soul singer Arthur Conley’s interpretation of the Beatles' song Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. Produced during the height of Conley's association with Atlantic and his mentor Otis Redding, the track was an attempt to bridge the gap between British pop sensibilities and the emerging Memphis soul sound that defined the label's output during that era.

The cover design and production approach reflect the standard aesthetic for Atlantic international singles of the late 1960s, which often prioritized label branding and clear artist identification to appeal to European markets. While the Beatles' original composition was a polarizing novelty hit, Conley’s soul-infused rendition was designed to offer a more rhythmic, brass-heavy perspective on the track, receiving moderate attention from radio stations looking to capitalize on the crossover popularity of both artists at the time.
