Orgelconcert In F No.13 «Koekoek En Nachtegaal» / Orgelconcert In Bes No.9 Op.7 No.3

This recording features organist Feike Asma performing two of George Frideric Handel's popular organ concertos, specifically the 'Cuckoo and the Nightingale' concerto in F major and the concerto in B-flat major, Op. 7, No. 3. Asma was a highly influential Dutch organist during the mid-20th century, renowned for his command of the symphonic organ repertoire and his technical proficiency. His interpretations of Handel were characterized by a grand, romanticized approach to the instrument, which was distinct from the historically informed performances that would become more prevalent in later decades.

The record was released on the Philips label as part of their 838 series. Asma frequently recorded on large, historic organs in the Netherlands, such as the instrument at the Grote Kerk in Maassluis, which favored the lush, resonant sound palette he preferred. Philips, being a prominent Dutch label, played a significant role in documenting Asma's extensive discography, providing a global platform for his work at a time when the classical organ repertoire was gaining a dedicated domestic following in Europe.
