Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1977 on the RCA Victor label, this soundtrack highlights the prolific work of brothers Guido and Maurizio De Angelis, who operated under the pseudonym Oliver Onions. The record serves as the musical companion to the Italian television miniseries Orzowei, which told the story of a white child raised by a Zulu tribe. The production was part of a golden era for the De Angelis brothers, who were dominant figures in Italian film and television scoring during the 1970s, known for blending orchestral arrangements with infectious, pop-infused melodies that often transcended the screen.

The album reflects the distinctive 'spaghetti soundtrack' aesthetic favored by the De Angelis brothers, characterized by soaring vocal harmonies and upbeat, synth-accented production. By the late 1970s, the duo had mastered a style that aimed for international accessibility, often releasing their television themes as standalone singles and albums that enjoyed significant chart success in Italy, Germany, and beyond. This specific pressing serves as a prime example of their ability to curate a thematic atmosphere that effectively balanced the dramatic, exotic premise of the series with the commercial sensibilities of the European pop market.
