Pâques - Chant Grégorien (Messe Du Jour / Messe De Quasimodo)

Released in 1980 under the Solesmes label, this recording features the Chœur des Moines de l'Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes under the direction of Dom Jean Claire. The Abbey of Solesmes has long been the global center for the preservation and study of Gregorian chant, playing a pivotal role in the liturgical reforms of the 20th century. By the time this record was produced, the monastery had established a decades-long tradition of capturing their authentic liturgical practice on vinyl to disseminate the sound of the Solesmes method to a wider ecclesiastical and academic audience.

The design and production were driven by the monks' commitment to historical accuracy, focusing on the rhythmic and melodic nuances characteristic of the Benedictine tradition. These recordings were intended to serve as both spiritual aids and pedagogical tools, capturing the acoustics of the abbey church to replicate the immersive experience of the Mass. Upon release, the record was received primarily within religious and musicological circles as a definitive reference for the specific interpretation of the Easter repertoire, marking a period where the monastery's influence on sacred music studies remained at its zenith.
