Where it came from
Pico's Pot-Pourri, released in 1976 on the Music for Pleasure label, stands as a hallmark of the budget-friendly lounge and easy-listening market that flourished in the mid-1970s. Produced as a collection of light instrumental arrangements, the record was intended to provide accessible background music for domestic settings, aligning with the label's mission to offer affordable, high-quality music to the general public during a period of economic fluctuation.
The album features the group known as De 2 Pico's, a studio project characterized by the era's tendency toward anonymous or pseudonymous musical collectives designed to bridge the gap between popular hits and instrumental lounge standards. While the specific personnel remains a subject of mild curiosity among collectors of kitsch and easy-listening vinyl, the design and selection were typical of the 'Music for Pleasure' curation, which prioritized familiar, unobtrusive melodies that could fit seamlessly into the life of a casual listener.
