Where it came from
Released in 2023 under the independent LaMirage Records imprint, Probability serves as a focused showcase for the artistic vision of Mak'One. The record emerges from a contemporary landscape where underground hip-hop producers are increasingly turning to self-contained, conceptual EPs to establish a distinct sonic identity. By eschewing a traditional catalog number, the release emphasizes its status as a limited, artist-led project rather than a mass-market commercial endeavor.
The design of the record reflects a minimalist aesthetic intended to mirror the abstract themes of choice and chance suggested by its title. Mak'One collaborated with local visual artists to craft a sleeve that prioritizes tactile texture and stark geometric patterns over conventional genre iconography. Upon its debut, the project received praise within niche electronic and experimental circles for its layered production and coherent, moody atmosphere, marking a significant step in the artist's discography.
