Where it came from
Rarin' Rockabilly, released in 1978 under catalog number RARIN' 666A, emerged during the late 1970s rockabilly revival. This period saw a surge of interest in the raw, energetic sounds of the mid-1950s, prompting small, independent labels like Rarin' Records to curate compilations of obscure, rare, and previously unreleased tracks from the 1956 to 1959 era.
The compilation serves as an archival project, capturing the frantic energy of rockabilly and country rock transitions. By focusing on deep cuts rather than the major hits of the genre, the label intended to satisfy the growing community of vinyl diggers and music historians who were seeking authentic recordings that had been largely bypassed by mainstream radio during the initial rockabilly explosion.
