Where it came from
Rattle Your Rockets, paired with I'm Dark As A Raven (You're Whiter Than Snow), was released in 1962 on the Brite Star Records label. Brite Star was a boutique label based in Nashville, known for operating as a vanity or independent service for aspiring country and rockabilly artists looking to press their music onto vinyl during the height of the 45 rpm era.
The record captures the rustic, unpolished sound of Ray Guyce & His Lonesome Valley Boys, a group emblematic of the mid-century regional musical acts that populated small labels in the early 1960s. The release reflects the trends of the period, when independent producers provided a path for independent musicians to distribute their recordings to jukebox operators and small radio stations without the backing of major record conglomerates.
