Johnny and the Hurricanes were a pivotal American instrumental rock and roll group from Toledo, Ohio, who gained international fame in the late 1950s for their distinct organ-led sound. These tracks, Red River Rock and Reveille Rock, are quintessential examples of the band's signature style, which involved taking traditional folk melodies or standard tunes and reimagining them with a driving, saxophone-and-organ-heavy rhythm. Red River Rock, based on the traditional folk song Red River Valley, reached the top ten in both the United States and the United Kingdom in 1959, establishing the group as masters of the instrumental rock subgenre.
