Johnny and the Hurricanes were a prominent instrumental rock and roll group from Toledo, Ohio, who rose to prominence in the late 1950s. Red River Rock, originally released in 1959, was their breakthrough hit, reimagining the folk standard Red River Valley as a high-energy saxophone-led instrumental. The track became a cornerstone of the organ-heavy rock style that defined their sound, characterized by the punchy interplay between Johnny Paris’s saxophone and the driving rhythm section.
