Sommerdrømme (Viser Og Sange Af Holger Drachmann)

Released in 1981 on the Xenia label, Sommerdrømme features Mette Sønderholm and Marianne Mortensen interpreting the poetry of Holger Drachmann. The album emerged from the Danish folk and ballad tradition, which frequently revisited the works of 19th-century national romantic poets during the late 20th century. By setting Drachmann’s verses to music, the artists aimed to bridge the gap between classical literature and the contemporary singer-songwriter movement of the early 1980s.

The album reflects a minimalist aesthetic common to independent Danish folk labels of the era, focusing on vocal performance and acoustic arrangement. While it remains a niche release within the Xenia catalog, it is representative of the era's interest in reviving maritime and nature-focused poetry. It was produced for an audience invested in Danish cultural heritage, and while it did not achieve mainstream commercial success, it remains a respected artifact of Danish poetic interpretation.
