Speelt Alexandre Guilmant Op Het Garrels-Orgel In De Grote Kerk Te Maassluis

Released in 1980 on the Cantilena label, this recording features the renowned Dutch organist Feike Asma performing the works of Alexandre Guilmant. The album was recorded on the historic Garrels-organ located in the Grote Kerk of Maassluis, an instrument celebrated for its architectural beauty and tonal variety. Asma, a prominent figure in the mid-20th-century Dutch organ scene, was deeply committed to the romantic organ repertoire, and this production serves as a testament to his technical command of the instrument within the acoustically rich setting of the Maassluis church.

The recording emerged from a period when organ enthusiasts and specialized labels were documenting the soundscapes of iconic pipe organs across the Netherlands. Asma’s approach to Guilmant reflects the interpretative traditions of the time, emphasizing the dynamic range and colors of the Garrels instrument, which dates back to the 18th century. While the release was primarily aimed at a niche audience of organ music aficionados, it remains a significant reference for collectors interested in the intersection of historic Dutch craftsmanship and the French romantic organ literature.
